The name is Govinda Naam Mera [2022]. Naturally, it will get the 90s audience nostalgic about popular actor Govinda. So, it wasn’t a surprise when producer Karan Johar was asked whether there was any possibility of having Govinda in this film?

Johar chose the moment to set the record straight.

“Not really,” Johar said in a stunned tone before confidently saying, “With great regard and respect to Govinda ji, who is an iconic actor in cinema, all we borrowed was the name, It would have been beyond the madness that this film already has. It would have been a further stretch. We do hope that we have his blessings because we are such big fans.”

Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Govinda Naam Mera [2022] is a murder mystery set in the humble lanes of Mumbai. The film stars Vicky Kaushal playing the titular character, with Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar playing the female leads. The film is set to be released on Disney + Hotstar on 16 December.

Govinda achieved great popularity in the 90s for his romcoms, family drama, comedy dramas especially those with director David Dhawan. Over the years, the forlorn actor has cut a frustrated look often slamming the film industry, fellow peers and even producers like Karan Johar over alleged marginislation.

Buzz has it that Govinda was recently asked about the Dharma Productions film Govinda Naam Mera . As told to us by a fellow scribe, the veteran downplayed any suggestion of starring in that film. He wasn’t upset with Karan Johar making such a film as the name [Govinda] isn’t exclusive.
