Those privileged enough to know Suniel Shetty would testify how the man is all heart. In an industry that likes vanity, Suniel Shetty is a rare exception who isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade.

In times when his peers were still active, Shetty had literally vanished from the scene. He did couple of South films that didn’t really click. The man now steps into the world of OTT with the MX Player noir Dharavi Bank [2022]. Shetty plays a don who controls Dharavi, one of the largest slums in the world. Having watched the first episode, it is fair to say that this is a character, a world that Shetty’s never explored before.

The seasoned actor admitted to feeling the pressure, but the good cast and crew made his task comfortable.

“I always had this fear that I don’t end up becoming a joke in front of the world. I’m doing good work after a long, long time. Honestly, it didn’t come to me before. Once you get that, you feel responsible. I’ve had great technicians to work with. They made it easy for me” said Shetty.

The experienced actor expressed gratitude for the role which has come so late in his career. Shetty took the moment to make some candid disclosure.

“I had cheated my audience. I’m still loved by my audience, but did that translate into tickets? No. Somewhere I made mistakes. Now if I want to rectify them, I have to keep my audience happy. I have to deliver something of quality,” said the Dharavi Bank actor.

Having done limited work in the last decade or so, this period was tough but it also enabled Shetty a chance to get a fresh perspective on cinema.

He says, “These last 5-8 years gave me an opportunity to spend time with my late father, the pandemic enabled me to spend time with my kids. I looked back to understand what is truly working now. What’s good /bad about our own industry. I went back to the drawing table and learnt.”

“Content is king, and if there is right pricing. You ought to invest in young talent. You’re unlikely to err. Even if you err, then it will not be a disaster. You’ll be able to land back on your feet”, added Shetty.

Dharavi Bank is set to stream on MX Player from 19 November.
