South is the flavour of the year. The success of few South Indian films – Pushpa [2021], RRR [2022], KGF: Chapter 2 [2022] – in the Hindi belt has opened the avenue for South stars to make an impact in Bollywood too.

However, the switch from South to Bollywood is never easy. Even greats like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan could not replicate their stardom down south in Hindi cinema.  Recently, we had Vijay Deverakonda making his Bollywood debut with the multi-lingual film Liger [2022] that failed to win over the Hindi as well as the Telugu audience.

Now, India’s ‘national crush’ Rashmika Mandanna is set to make her Bollywood debut with director Vikas Bahl’s Goodbye [2022]. The family drama also sees Mandanna share the screen with Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan.  That is a good enough reason to pick Goodbye and Mandanna didn’t shy away from admitting that with Mr.Bachchan headlining the cast, there is no way she could have said goodbye to Goodbye [2022].  However, post Pushpa, Mandanna has found a pan India popularity She surely must have been offered with loads of Hindi projects. How does one sway away from all this the hype, euphoria, and decide what is the best script to make your Bollywood with? We asked this to Mandanna at the Goodbye trailer launch on 6 September in Mumbai.

“I’ve always picked scripts, going by my gut feeling. I believe that what is meant to be, will happen to me. Maybe, this is a universal way to say it,” said Mandanna.

The philosophical nature was further reflected when Mandanna didn’t really clutter her mind but rather chose to go with the flow and harped on creating happy memories for herself and her audience.

She says, “I’m in a point in my career where I’m going out there and testing my waters. I don’t know what is right or wrong? I don’t know what people will expect of me.” Mandanna continues, “As an actor. I want to do good films and have fun while doing it. It is not for life that I’m going to be doing the same things. One day, I’m also going to die. Till the time I can work happily. I am willing to create such memories and make everyone smile. This film is so special.”

Goodbye [2022] is set to be released in theatres on 7 October.
