Box office tussles are inevitable in a post pandemic world. This August, super stars Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan will be locking horns vying for box office supremacy. Kumar’s family drama Raksha Bandhan and Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha are both set to be released on 11 August.
Kumar and his team stepped out to launch the first song of their film today [29 June] in Mumbai. The proceedings were wrapped up before Kumar came back on the stage to answer couple of queries. The big question on the box office clash popped up last. And expectedly, Kumar downplayed all such competitive talks.
“It’s a holiday week. I think there are 3-4 holidays that week. There is enough space for two films films to release. For two years, we had Covid. And so you will have weeks where two films will release on the same day. If I talk of Aamir saab, this is not the first time our films clashed. Welcome [2007] and Taare Zameen Par released on the same day and both did very well. We’re hoping the same this time too,” said Kumar.
It must be recalled that Kumar had earlier shifted the release date of his film Bachchhan Paandey [2022] to make way for Laal Singh Chaddha. However, the long lock down period has put most schedules into haywire. Kumar’s always followed the principle of first come first basis. Rakshan Bandhan was announced last year and slated to release around the festival. While Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha has missed many dates due to the pandemic. Besides, with a title like Raksha Bandhan, it is all the more apt that the film releases on the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
