In another tragic blow to the indian film industry, legendary singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam (74) passed away in Chennai on Friday [26 September]. The veteran singer lost a long battle to Covid-19. Subrahmanyam was admitted in Chennai’s MGM Healthcare hospital since 5 August after he was diagnosed with Covid-19.
The hospital is likely to issue an official statement soon, but an official confirmed that the legend has passed away..
Subrahmanyam was admitted to hospital on 5 August. A host of celebrities from the Tamil film industry had gathered to pray for his health. The legend had shown some recovery, and his son S.P. Charan had even posted about his father testing negative. Was there a relapse of the Coronavirus? An official statement from the hospital will answer all such queries.
A giant of Indian cinema, Balasubrahmanyam has recorded over 40,000 songs in his career, spreading across 16 languages, and different film industries. He held the Guinness World Record for most number of songs sung by a singer. He was a recipient of the Padma Shri  and the Padma Bhushan .
