A.R. Rahman’s soothing composition, Mohit Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal’s mesmerizing tones and Sushant and Sanjana’s fine chemistry makes Taare Ginn a beautiful romantic number

A few days after launching the title track, the makers of Dil Bechara [2020] have now released the romantic number Taare Ginn.

Count the stars, that’s the Hindi translation for the song title. For a man who was a great student of astrophysics, it is only befitting that the late Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film has a song that talks about counting the stars. Of course, counting the stars is often used metaphorically in Hindi romantic numbers. Love calls upon you to dream big. Dreams as big and far as the stars. And that is the essence of lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya’s romantic song – Taare Ginn.

Once again, it is a fine melody by A.R. Rahman. The tempo notches up high in the fag end of the song, and perhaps, it is a bit of dampener, but nevertheless, the music is highly soothing and enjoyable.

Over the last few years, Mohit Chauhan and A.R. Rahman have collaborated in a few films from the South, but they reunite for a Hindi film, a first since the Matargasthi track from Tamasha [2015]. Chauhan has reigning female playback singer Shreya Ghoshal for company in the Taare Ginn duet.

They are established singers and you’d don’t really find any fault with their efforts in the Taare Ginn duet. They have melodious tones but the beauty of the track is the intertwining tones at certain junctures. The intro tunes has the duo singing in speedy tones, but then Chauhan switches to the more harmonious jazzy styling singing. Save for the opening lines, Ghoshal’s voice plays out like an undertone to Chauhan’s more prominent tone. Though intertwining, but the two voices play out beautifully syncing well the music. The mesmerizing piano rendition between the first and the second verses floors you.

Finally, the song is enjoyable to watch for the chemistry displayed by Rajput and Sanghi. Manny [Rajput] is taking out Kizie Basu [Sanghi] for a date. The man indulges in a bit of chivalry which is always classy. It’s often the small gestures that count in any relationship. Manny [probably] has a reverse tattoo on his palm. Displaying it through a water-filled clear glass reveals the text to be as ‘dance’. These small but tender moments are enough to melt one’s heart. Later, the man uses a piece of cloth or plastic wire-like thing and places it on his face like a nasal cannula. Remember Kizie Basu has cancer. Most cancer patients would usually avoid such public appearances, but Manny and Kizie care two hoots about what the people around them would think of it. The two lovers are on a date and are simply enjoying their evening.

Just like Manny and Kizie are enjoying their beer, we’d like to give three cheers to this beautiful melody by Rahman, Chauhan and Ghoshal.
